Good Morning

Stock markets in the United States keep going up. The Dow Jones set another record yesterday and the S&P 500 also keeps breaking records. There is a clear acceleration of the past weeks. The increase is now very fast and draws comparisons with August 2020. The acceleration is exciting, but often also means the end of an upward trend. Statistically, such corrections occur once every 16 months. A pullback of 5% takes place on average even 3 times a year.Investor enthusiasm was fuelled by the strong increase in retail sales. US consumers made good use of their incentive vouchers in March and bought in en masse. Retail sales rose by no less than 9.8%, while analysts forecast an increase of 6.1%. That things are going in the right direction in the US was also reflected in weekly unemployment claims, which fell by 193,000 to 576,000, the lowest level since the outbreak of the corona pandemic. The quarterly figures from the major US banks have also been well received in recent days and look to investors for an optimistic quarterly figures season.

HSBC turned bullish on BP p.l.c. (BP), upgrading the stock to "Buy"from Hold.

Marathon Petroleum Corporation (MPC) has won the favor of Raymond James' equity research team. The firm upgraded the shares from Market Perform to Strong Buy and moved their price target to $69.

Valero Energy Corporation (VLO) received an upgrade from analysts at Raymond James, who also set their one-year price target on the stock to $96. They changed their rating on VLO to Strong Buy from Outperform in a recently issued research note.

Earlier Friday Truist reduced its rating on PPD Inc. (PPD) stock to Hold from Buy.

Morgan Stanley analysts reduced their investment ratings, saying in research reports covered by the media that its rating for The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (GT) has been changed to Equal Weight from Overweight.

Analysts at Dawson James downgraded BioCardia Inc. (BCDA)'s stock to Neutral from Buy Monday.

Top US earnings releases scheduled for today include Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS). It will announce its Mar 2021 financial results. The company is expected to report earnings of $1.7 per share from revenues of $14.09B in the three-month period.

Analysts expect The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation (NYSE:BK) to report a net income (adjusted) of $0.87 per share, when the company releases its quarterly results shortly. Revenue for the fiscal quarter ended Mar 2021 is predicted to come in at $3.85B.

Citizens Financial Group Inc. (CFG), due to announce earnings before the market opens today, is expected to report earnings of $0.97 per share from revenues of $1.65B recently concluded three-month period.
