Good Morning!

Stock markets in the United States closed on Thursday. The Dow Jones (-0.18%) and the S&P 500 (-0.16%) ended slightly lower. Despite a weak start, the Nasdaq managed to squeeze out a gain of 0.13% at a close of 15,181 points. Investors reacted less enthusiastically to the weak retail data from July. July store sales were revised downwards, from an increase of 0.5% to a decline of no less than 1.8%. August store sales did grow by 0.7%, while analysts had expected a 0.8% contraction. The 332,000 jobless claim (expectation 320,000) also offered little hope to investors. Economists initially thought that the number of unemployment applications would fall sharply from September, but the economic recovery seems to be hampered by the delta variant of the corona virus. At the same time, investors remain concerned about inflation and September has not been the best month for equities historically. On the other hand, economic growth is picking up and equities remain attractive due to low interest rates.
