On May 18, US stock markets ended in negative territory. The S&P 500 fell 4.04% to 3924, the Nasdaq shed 4.73% and the Dow Jones corrected 3.57%. All sectors included in the broad market index closed in the red. The sectors of discretionary (-6.60%) and non-cyclical consumer goods (-6.38%) showed the largest drop.   • Chevron (CVX: -2.64%) launches a carbon capture and storage project to reduce the carbon intensity of mining in California.

  • Cisco (CSCO: -4.43%) reported lower-than-expected revenue and slowed sales growth under the influence of the unfavorable geopolitical situation and anti-COVID restrictions in China. Management revised its revenue growth forecast from 4.5% to 2-3%.

  • Target Corp. (TGT: -24.93%) generated above-consensus revenue for the quarter, but the retailer's profits were cut in half by high fuel and freight costs. Management reaffirmed its sales guidance for the current fiscal year, but lowered its operating profit guidance.

Canaan Inc. (CAN), a Computer Hardware company, rose about 6.69% at $3.35 in pre-market trading Thursday. The company reported a gross profit of US$130.9 million in Q1 2022, representing an increase of 327.2% from the same period of 2021.

Morgan Stanley turned bullish on Reinsurance Group of America Incorporated (RGA), upgrading the stock to Equal Weight and assigning a $132.00 price target, representing potential upside of 9.07% from Wednesday's close.

Public Storage (PSA) has won the favor of BMO Capital's equity research team. The firm upgraded the shares from Market Perform to Outperform.

Barclays PLC (BCS) received an upgrade from analysts at Keefe Bruyette. They changed their rating on BCS to Outperform from Market Perform in a recently issued research note.

Earlier Thursday Piper Sandler reduced its rating on UWM Holdings Corp. (UWNC) stock to Underweight from Neutral and assigned the price target to $3.00.

Stifel analysts reduced their investment ratings, saying in research reports covered by the media that its rating for Target Corporation (TGT) has been changed to Hold from Buy and the new price target is set at $185.00.

Analysts at JP Morgan downgraded Wipro Limited (WIT)'s stock to Underweight from Neutral Thursday.

Top US earnings releases scheduled for today include BJ's Wholesale Club Holdings Inc. (NYSE:BJ). It will announce its Apr 2022 financial results. The company is expected to report earnings of $0.71 per share from revenues of $4.24B in the three-month period.

Analysts expect Kohl's Corporation (NYSE: KSS) to report a net income (adjusted) of $0.7 per share when the company releases its quarterly results shortly. Revenue for the fiscal quarter ended Apr 2022 is predicted to come in at $3.68B.

Canada Goose Holdings Inc. (GOOS), due to announce earnings before the market opens today, is expected to report earnings of -$0.01 per share from revenues of $172.71M recently concluded three-month period.
