Markets climbed on Tuesday after a softer-than-expected inflation report boosted hopes for a Federal Reserve rate cut next month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 411 points (0.9%), while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq each gained 0.6%. Early in the session, the Nasdaq even hit a new intraday high, reflecting renewed investor confidence.

July's consumer price index rose 2.7% year-over-year, slightly below forecasts, while core CPI increased by 3.1%, just above expectations. The numbers helped ease fears that tariffs—particularly from President Trump’s trade policies—could stoke inflation. Investors interpreted the data as a sign that the Fed could be more aggressive in lowering interest rates.

Following the inflation report, traders priced in a 91% chance of a September rate cut, up from 85% prior to the release. Bets on additional cuts in October and December also rose. Investors will now turn their attention to Thursday’s producer price index and the upcoming Fed gathering in Jackson Hole for more signals on monetary policy direction.
