Dear Readers,

Stocks in the S&P 500 surged on Friday following milder inflation figures, propelling them toward an impressive eighth consecutive week of gains in a year-end rally sweeping Wall Street.

This streak marks a notable achievement, as both the S&P 500 and Dow are set for their longest stretch of positive weeks in several years – a feat not seen for the S&P 500 since 2017 and for the Dow since 2019. The S&P 500 is currently boasting a 0.9% weekly increase, while the Dow is up by 0.4%. Additionally, the Nasdaq has surged over 1% during this period.

The recent market upswing has seen a broader spectrum of participation, attributed to declining bond yields and speculation among traders anticipating interest rate cuts from the central bank. Friday witnessed a robust performance from the small-cap Russell 2000, with a gain exceeding 1% and on track for its sixth consecutive positive week.

In light of the approaching holiday, the U.S. stock market will be closed on Monday for Christmas.

As of 11:52 AM ET, the Dow was up 43.5977 points, or 0.1166%, at $37447.95. The Nasdaq Composite added 31.5313 points, or 0.1882%, at $16788.94. The S&P 500 rose 12.8599 points, or 0.2709%, at $4759.61. Among the 11 major S&P 500 sectors, 9 showed positive movement, with Utilities leading the way with a 0.67% increase.
